Scholarships from the MasterCard Foundation at Michigan State University (MSU)

Undergraduate and graduate students from Sub-Saharan Africa can now receive full tuition scholarships from Michigan State University thanks to a partnership between the MasterCard Foundation and the university. The foundation will donate $45 million to the institution to assist 185 scholars over the course of the nine-year program, including 100 four-year undergraduates and 85 graduate students.

Scholarship Program of the MasterCard Foundation

The MasterCard Foundation Scholars program’s mission is to educate and mentor talented but economically disadvantaged young people in Africa and developing nations who have a strong “give-back” mindset and who will help improve the continent.

In 8 to 10 years, the Scholarship Program is expected to help 15,000 young people. The MasterCard Foundation is collaborating with the following US universities to provide scholarships for students from Africa and poor nations. the MasterCard Foundation Scholars Program: find out more.

Scholars from the MasterCard Foundation at Wellesley College

Nine (9) African women will receive all-encompassing support from Wellesley as part of the Scholars Program, including scholarships, mentorship, counseling, and internship possibilities for undergraduate study.

Stanford University’s MasterCard Foundation Scholars Program

Over the next eight years, 20 gifted but underprivileged African students will receive full support from Stanford University’s MasterCard Foundation education initiative in order to receive scholarships in the United States. Five (5) undergraduate students from Sub-Saharan Africa will receive support from the Scholars Program each year.

In 2012, 10 undergraduates from seven different African countries were admitted to Arizona State University as part of the first cohort of MasterCard Foundation Scholars.

For international students looking to pursue a Master’s or PhD, there is the Fulbright Program. The scholarships may also be given for postgraduate studies without a degree. The grant pays for the student’s tuition, books, flights, living expenses, and health insurance.

MMMF Scholarship for Developing Country Women in the United States and Canada

The Margaret McNamara Memorial Fund (MMMF) awards grants to women in developing nations to support their continued education and build their leadership capacities in an effort to better the lives of women and children in those nations. Each grant that the MMMF awards is worth about $12,000.

Women from poor nations who are presently enrolled in recognized universities in the US or Canada are eligible applicants.

AAUW International Fellowship for Women

Women who are not U.S. citizens or permanent residents are eligible to apply for American Association of University Women – AAUW International Fellowships to pursue full-time study or research in the country.

By September 30 of the preceding year, applicants needed to have completed the equivalent of a US bachelor’s degree, and they also needed to have started the application process for the schools they intended to attend.

For Masters, PhD, and postdoctoral students, the award is worth $18,000, $20,000, and $30,000, respectively.

International Student Mandela Fellowship Program at Michigan State University for South African Students

By offering tuition aid during the first year of graduate study, MSU hopes to support the development of South African colleges and institutions. Many of these students will return to the country to take up government and professional roles. The goal is to enable departments to provide scholarships in the USA, temporarily bringing students to campus and giving them time to find alternative financial resources for the remaining portion of their program of study.

Scholarships through the Clark University Global Scholars Program

The Global Scholars Program at Clark University is available to high school students who are neither citizens nor permanent residents of the United States, as well as to American citizens and permanent residents who live abroad and will finish all of their secondary schoolings outside of the country. The award also includes a guaranteed $2,500 taxable stipend for a paid internship or research assistantship taken for academic credit the summer after the sophomore or junior year, as well as a scholarship of no less than $15,000 (($60,000 for four years contingent upon meeting academic standards for renewal)).
